General
This is a bound volume containing documents associated with the trial of Hermann Roechling and Associates, a case which was tried by the General Tribunal of Rastatt, French Occupation Zone of Germany. There are a few interesting points to note in this volume. The introduction of the document “The Roechling Trial by Josif Marcu Jr., Special Consultant” indicates that this trial was similar to the Flick trial (Case No. 5: United States vs. Friedrich Flick, et al.), Hermann Roechling being a less prominent German industrialist and a supporter of the Nazi party. Marcu makes comparisons of the evidence submitted in each trial and the respective tribunals’ manner of interpreting Allied Control Council Law No. 10, under which the charges were brought.
Additionally, the document “War Crimes Trials in the French Zone” indicates that the French authorities requested that there be an observer from the Nurnberg Military Tribunal at the General Tribunal at Rastatt.
Loose leaf documents at the end of the volume indicate that some documents of the Roechling trial should be included in the “Krupp volume,” presumably Volume IX of the Green Series. Although that volume does contain references to Roechling, a footnote indicates that the judgment in the Roechling case is reproduced as an appendix to the Ministries Case. vol. XIV. The sections of this volume are as follows:
