Biographical / Historical

Information provided by SCUA associate, Emiel Brown:

Per the first document in the series, "A Student Life Advisory Council, consisting of faculty members and students, coordinates the program and recommends the policy of the Student Life Program. College housing and boarding, the health program, financial aid, part-time employment, the advising and counseling program, orientation of new students, student publications, clubs and religious groups, career guidance and placement and the operation of the College Centre are all part of the student life program."

Minutes refer to the Health and Safety, Housing, Traffic, New Student Orientation, and Scholarship and Loans/Financial Aid committees. Most of the documents address issues of policy, event planning, student organizations, parking, alcohol and drug use, and student disciplinary actions.

Records and publications refer to the Student Life Council and Student Life Program through the end of the 1960s. The College Senate records contain one file titled "Student Life Advisory Council," also from within this period. Gold and White handbooks list the Student Life Advisory Council as a student-faculty committee through 1970. Publications from 1996-2001 refer to the "Division for Student Life." I am still unsure where this group is located organizationally. Per a document in folder 4: "The Student Life Council is responsible to and under the jurisdiction of the President of the College."
