Biographical / Historical

The first minutes regarding Administrative Council meetings of Towson State College are recorded in October of 1956, although it is highly probable that the Council had been meeting for some time. By 1956, the administrative positions within the school had grown to President, Dean of Instruction, Dean of Students, Director of Admissions, Registrar, Business Manager, and the Principal of the Lida Lee Tall School.

It was decided at that October meeting that there would be weekly Council meetings on Mondays to discuss and advise the College president on school matters. These meetings covered a multitude of topics including parking, student services, state legislation matters, scheduling of holidays and exams. Often subcommittees would be created to review and report back on topics such as Freshmen Orientation. These committees could include individuals outside of the Council in advisory positions, like professors or students.

The last meeting minutes available are from July of 1966. By September of 1967, new committees had been formed to replace the Administrative Council.
