Biographical / Historical
When the school that would become Towson University began, it was focused on training teachers for Maryland public schools, which meant that most students would have to find placements within the public school system. When the school transitioned to a liberal arts college in 1963, helping students find careers after their graduation became an essential part of the duties of the school. Until 1971, this office was called the Placement Office, but in 1971 it became Career Planning and Placement. In 1983 it was renamed the Career Placement Center The name changed to the Career Center in the late 1990s.
