Biographical / Historical
Towson's Faculty Development and Research Committee began in 1977 under the name "Faculty Development Committee." Created by the Academic Council, it's purpose was to increase communication between faculty members as well as publicizing opportunites for career development.
In 1982, Towson underwent a major academic reorganization and the Academic Council (the governing body of the school at the time) became the University Senate. During this period, the Faculty Development Committee expanded its role to include reviewing and approving faculty grant proposals.
Ten years later, in 1992, the Faculty Develoment Committee was combined with the Faculty Research committee, which, up until that point, had been responsible for funding various projects, conference registration fees, and publication costs. The resulting committee, the Faculty Development and Reseach Committe, was much better suited to providing opportunities and resources for professional development.

Abstract
Towson University's Faculty Development Program promotes teaching, scholarship, and service. Through financial support, sabbaticals, grants for assigned time, summer stipends, travel funds, publications, lectures, classes, workshops, conferences and other activities, the Faculty Development Program aims to create a stimulating atmosphere in which the university's teachers and scholars have access to opportunities for professional growth.
The Faculty Development and Research Committee is composed of two faculty appointed from each academic college on recommendation of the Faculty Association President to the University President.
Arrangement
Items were arranged alphabetically in series based on topic in order to facilitate easy location of specific subjects by researchers. Likewise, most subseries were arranged alphabetically with individial items arranged chroniclogically. The exceptions being Grant Applications and Sabbaticals, which were arranged chronologically by subseries and alphabetically by item, in accordance with their origial order. Where possible, the creator's original folder titles were maintained.
