The collection is composed of correspondence, minutes, reports, programs, announcements, and other material related to the governance and events created by the Asian Arts and Culture Center.

Abstract

This College oversees the Art Department, Asian Art Gallery, Dance Department, Electronic Media and Film Department, Mass Communication Department, Music Department, and Theatre Department. It was established in 1982 when the college system was created at Towson State University, now Towson University. This collection is composed of meeting and correspondence files, as well as material related to productions of the College.

Abstract Music was one of the first classes taught to students at the Maryland State Normal School, predecessor of Towson University, when it opened its doors in 1866. The focus of the program was primarily on offering education for classroom instruction. Later, music appreciation as well as instruction in the form of vocal and instrumental lessons were added. Abstract First offered as a Speech and Drama major in 1962, the Department of Theatre Arts had its beginning almost at the start of Towson University’s history, as dramatic readings were part of teacher’s education. The department would move to the Center for the Arts in 1973, splintering off from Speech at that time.
